Posting twice doesn't make it more likely to happen Nick

I could try and sneak you in my carry on bag but don't know if you would fit in the overhead bin!

Hi Dick! I'll be there and hope to see you.
Cheerio, Ron.

I'll be there, too, of course.

I'll actually be in LA Monday and Tuesday. I'm in the process of making plans for people things and things to see and do those two days, so if anyone would like to meet up, please let me know. Send me e-mail at the address in my profile.

Hi James. If you are looking for something to do that does not take a whole day to see, then may I recommend visiting the Queen Mary in Long Beach (about 45 mins. from Universal City). She's the original Poseidon, or at least, parts of the original 1972 film were shot aboard the Queen Mary. She's a real gem - nothing like the white elephants that now dominate the cruise industry.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ron. I've always wanted to go out there, but more for the Spruce Goose than the Queen Mary. And now I'd have to go up to Oregon for that. But thanks for reminding me of it. If I have the time, I may go out there.

See you all in LA.

I am curious to know if anyone got food poisoning during your stay in LA last week. I got a terrible stomach bug that lasted a few days. My doctor believes it is salmonella poisoning. I had all the conference food and am trying to narrow it down to what could have been the bad food.

My fellow projectionists: I need your help. I'll be doing a presentation at the GSCA Technical Session next month at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX. (See below). I need an appropriate adjective that starts with the letter "J". No jokes, please be serious in your suggestion(s). Thanks, Ron

Journal...as in, keeps meticulous records? Just a thought.

How about Jovial?
as in
1. endowed with or characterized by a hearty, joyous humor or a spirit of good-fellowship: a wonderfully jovial host.

Joyful.

We love these big noisy machines that gobble up thousands of feet of delicate film every day yet leave no scratches at all!

J is a tough adjective. The only thing I can remotely come up with is Jury-Rigged... symbolizing all the times you need to think on your feet and fix a problem simply and quickly with something that may not be aesthetically pleasing but gets the job done, LOL.

I've come to find fast friends in such items as duct tape, Krazy Glue, elastic bands, a Sharpie, foam paddding, a pair of scissors, packing tape, twine, etc.,. :o)

Judicious:
having, exercising, or characterized by good or discriminating judgment; wise, sensible, or well-advised

Jockey

As in jockeying prints around to accomodate the show schedule.

If you have the right equipment, there's little need for jockeying prints.
Next message Jeffry L. Johnson posted on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 08:15 am
And, with the right equipment, there's little chance of damaging the print, damaging equipment, and/or injuring the projectionist.

How about "Jack of all trades" .
As in the projectionist has to know a little bit of all things technical... :-)

Don't forget to ask about the prize, Jack.

Oh man, too late, I knew I should have checked the board earlier today, pesky work.

I don't really have anything anyway but my first thoughts were
1. JANITOR or JANITORIAL-for obvious reasons

2. JUMPING JACKS-As in what you need to do to stay awake sometimes in the booth.

3. I will leave JACKASS off my list I guess, you had asked for serious ones.

Good Luck with the presentation Ron, wish I could be there.
Next message Ron Bartsch posted on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 06:01 pm
Thanks Tim. The presentation is titled, "Seven Habits Of A Highly-Successful Projection Booth". I have 10 minutes to speak, and will also run a standard punched test loop for the audience. The underlying goal is to bring LF projection issues/topics into the limelight from now on at the GSCA conferences to promote industry awareness, appreciation, respect, and understanding of the world of LF projection and its importance to the bottom line. You guys can help by encouraging your management to send more projectionists to these conferences. Offer to pay half the costs yourself; that may be an incentive. Remember that the GSCA community comprises all LF personnel - including LF projectionists!
