Just seen on Yahoo Imax stock quote page the news that Imax have bought up Digital Projection International who build projectors based on the TI DMD technology. I saw a demo of one of their units recently and very impressive it was too. Give it a few years and perhaps they'll fill the big screen.

IMAX Corporation Announces Acquisition Of Digital Projection International PLC
TORONTO, Sept. 7 -- Imax Corporation today announced that it has acquired U.K.-based Digital Projection International PLC. ("DPI"), one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of digital image delivery systems. DPI's digital image delivery systems have been used to project high-quality images at rock concerts, casinos and trade shows, in business and corporate conferences, and a variety of other uses including museum displays, electronic billboards and on the sets of nearly every major news network.

Wechsler and Richard L. Gelfond. "We believe that DPI's systems are the most advanced in the digital image delivery industry today. The acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on Imax's earnings in 1999 or 2000. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Digital Projection, Ltd. of Manchester, England was founded in 1989, originally as a division of The Rank Group and have been instrumental in the development and application of the Texas Instruments' DLP(TM) Technology. Digital Projection's primary business is the development, production and sales of projectors used in high-end digital image delivery applications. In 1998, Digital Projection was awarded an Emmy® by The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development. In May, Digital Projection released their new SXGA Lightning projectors at InfoComm, an industry trade show, to positive reviews.

Imax Corporation Purchases Digital Projection International
KENNESAW, Ga., Sept. 7 -- Digital Projection today announced Imax Corporation has purchased all of the outstanding shares of Digital Projection International (DPI), the corporate holding company of Digital Projection, Ltd. Manchester, UK) and Digital Projection, Inc. (Kennesaw, GA) making Digital Projection a wholly owned subsidiary of Imax Corporation.
According to Brian Critchley, managing director of Digital Projection, the acquisition will empower both companies with a depth of engineering resources for addressing the large-venue staging and systems integration projection markets.
"Digital Projection will continue to develop, manufacture, distribute and support its POWER, LIGHTNING & HIGHLITE Display projectors for use in large-venue environments, such as live events, churches, casinos, campus lecture halls & theatres, government & military, boardrooms, broadcast sets, postproduction houses ... every market we currently occupy. In fact, we believe we will be poised to expand our contributions to these markets with the strength of Imax," said Critchley.
With an immediate presence in the $4.6 billion electronic projection display marketplace, Imax Corporation will leverage its expertise in creating state-of-the-art visual experiences to complement Digital Projection's development of creating extended format digital displays.
