Does anyone know what the "real" number of IMAX theaters there are? You'd think you could find an updated list on the IMAX site, but: http://www.imax.com/theatres/epcot.html Closed for 1-year as of today. How long will it stay listed on the IMAX site? Are there others that are closed or missing from the list? |

| I do not know the current tally. I do, however, know the email address for IMAX. I am sure Michael will update the site soon. |

| There's an actual catalogue that you can get from IMAX/DKP listing all the theatres worldwide, albeit its a bit out of date now as new theatres have been added since its printing last year. |

| I think they're between 200 and 225 at this point, with about 70 of those being Domes and about 100-125 being 3D. This is just a guess, though. |

| Golly....what a novel idea. But you'll get a different number according to whom you talk to. This is nobody's fault in particular, just that the IMAX organization is large, and some people get told about things later that others. I was under the impression that there were only about <50 3D-capable houses. |

| Have you tried looking at http://www.1570films.com ? Although it hasn't been updated since June, it also lists upcoming Theaters. |

| Imax Corporation only publishes this information on a quarterly basis. As of September 30, 1999 there were 203 IMAX® theatres operating in 25 countries worldwide, 61 IMAX®, 65 IMAX® Dome, 74 IMAX® 3D, and three IMAX® 3D Dome. The above breakdowns include theatres which house more than one IMAX technology such as the IMAX/IMAX Dome/IMAX 3D theatre in Barcelona. In the United States there are 98 theatres; in Canada, 24; in Europe, 32; in Japan, 20; in Mexico, eight; in Asia, 12; in Australia, eight; in South Africa, one. I will post update when the 4th quarter info is published. |

| T.J. You were right. They've updated the site and took the EPCOT theater off. Thanks. |

By my count, there are 208 IMAX theaters open as of today, including two temporary theaters that opened on Jan. 1 for F2K (Denver and Los Angeles). In case you're interested, another 102 8/70, 10/70, or non-IMAX 15/70 theaters are also open now. I don't want to tempt people away from the wonderful 1570.com Web site, but keep an eye on mine (www.cinergetics.com). Within a month or two I hope to have my complete database of LF films and theaters (of all types) online. |

As we conclude our Fantasia run at the temporary Disney's FANTASIA 2000 IMAX Theatre in Los Angeles, it occured to me that the 1570 gang might want to see a picture of it. This picture was taken in mid December while the theatre was still under construction. It seats 622, was built in a little over 4 weeks, and will be dismantled after April 30th: |
