Not that it is likely to appear in any IMAX marketing media in the near feature, but reference to the 15/70 giant was made on Comedy Central's less-than-politically-correct (but funny) show, South Park this past Wednesday.

The show centered around a film festival being brought to the small town of South Park. Reference was made to showing the films on "Cartman's ass" (Cartman is a bit -- okay, a lot -- larger than his cartoon counterparts), to which one of his friends said "That would be IMAX..."

I doubt IMAX paid for the plug, but its appearance in cartoons (South Park on August 19), and comics (Hi & Lois on June 29) is entertaining. Anyone else know of any other IMAX-related plugs?

We have a "Fox Trot" cartoon on our booth door... the parents are on the floor in front of the TV, right next to it looking up from the bottom and saying something like "IMAX movies are much better in the theatre than rented". We also used to have a "Bound and Gagged" cartoon with a psychic sitting in front of a giant crystal ball, with the caption, if crystal balls were IMAX or somthing lame. Both were from around the time Fantasia came out.

I saw "Rent" on Broadway last week. There was a line that went: "...in the 3D Imax of my mind". I'm not sure what it meant but I enjoyed the reference all the same. By the way, that Foxtrot is posted in one of these threads...can't recall which one.

The Fox Trot cartoon referred to above can be seen in the Communication Center at http://70.86.181.162/~i1570com/discus/messages/6/10.html. It's cute.

I am re-reading the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy books and found a large-format reference in the first book;
When the heroes arrive on Magrathea (the planet that makes planets), they get separated and Arthur is picked up by a guy called Slartibartfast, who puts two wires into Arthur's hands which produce a projection so realisitic that it "knocks six-track seventy millimeter into a bucket"

Kind of a fun reference for us LF gear heads.

They could have been referring to 5/70....?

If you need me Ian...I'm in the car park...parking cars. :)
