There have been many rumours flying around about the IMAX 3D In Bournemouth.
Does anyone know when the 3D Imax will open ?
And also does anyone know the Imax projection team line up?

Regards

Last I spoke with my friends at Sheridan IMAX in Dublin, they were looking at a September opening for Bournemouth. As far as staffing, I know they have a chief, but I am not aware of any further projectionist hires.

The chief and at least one other projectionist have been appointed as I understand.

It's definitely a 3D GT with probably a DTAC.
Yes,they want a 35mm machine.

Opening date? Don't hold your breath for September!! Mind you,Shawn didn't say which September did he?

The chief appointed at the Bournemouth Imax is Mark Robinson, there are two full time projectionists appointed and one part time.

The building work is nearly completed and SHOULD? open for September, but I belive depends now on Imax to install the projection equipment, then the final opening date is set.

An update on this controversial Imax Theatre in Bournemouth.

It was closed down in February 2005 and the remaining staff were made redundant as the operators Sheridan Group planned to refurbish the Theatre.

As most of the "Locals & Press" expected no work was ever carried out and in October last year the Building Landlords served Notice on Sheridan to vacate the site for non-payment of the Lease and the closure of the Imax.

However, in further development twist Sheridan lodged a Legal action with the Landlords to counter their eviction notice!.

On the day of the Court Hearing this August, the case was dropped against Sheridan provided that they re-open the Imax.

After some recent Press coverage on this, very little has changed and it was even suggested that it will be opened this week!.

However it still remains closed, the Bournemouth Council with many local people are frustrated that this saga is still with them and the town is without the attraction that remains closed.

I really now doubt that Sheridan will ever open the Imax in Bournemouth as no doubt it was running at a lost, but that could be blammed on old films and the lack of marketing of the Imax and 2.5 years late openning did not help.

Perhaps there may be a Imax Theatre operator who could step in even in this late stage and re-open the Bournemouth Imax?.

It is been reported today in the local press that the Sheridan Group (Imax Operators) and NILGOS (Building Owners) are to settle their ongoing legal battle over the Bournemouth Imax which has been closed since 2005.

They plan to sell the Imax Theatre either as a Imax Theatre operation or use the building for other use.

The building is managed by La Salle Property Management for NILGOS.
